Let me comment on that.....

Like every other class in College, I'm reading a text book for my social media management class and there is a chapter about commenting. Every single social media outlet gives users the ability to comment on another users post/blog/tweet/etc. which can make people feel good (if the comment is positive) about themselves. In the chapter about comments, Chris Brogan tells us to be responsible on our comments, to take time and seriously think about what we say to and about others. I agree with this because I understand that users who post things do so to feel connected, and I'm sure they can appreciate the feedback and the knowledge that people somewhere are reading and a least connecting with them on some level.

So I did a little reading, and made some comments on the blogs of some of my classmates!

Mondays, Wednesdays and what I've learned between 1P.M. and 3P.M. (On those days)

So it's been 4 weeks, and I'm that much closer to being a "distinguished" Alumnus of THE Ohio University. I know what you're thinking (maybe): "Pretty sweet, right?" Well, I'm terrified. The real world doesn't found like fun. Since I still have some school left, I figure I'll share with you what I've learned from my social media management class. Here are a few things:

The most interesting concept I've learned about so far is how much businesses use social media to better reach their audiences/consumers/markets. It's really cool to know that every single tweet, Facebook post and maybe even blog entry that mentions a social media savvy company, they know about it. They are constantly engaging with people through the social media mediums in a way that they never have before, talk about customer service. I would love to work for a company that utilized its resources to reach out through social media to better their company, its pretty sweet stuff.

Gatorade is super social media savvy.
With every class I take, there are some interesting things and some not-so-interesting things (some more so than others). The thing I could care about the LEAST, is the industrial revolution. I understand that it's important to know how we as a culture got here, but I just can't bring myself to give a darn. I've been learning about that era since 6th grade and its getting old. Stuff like that I just can't put a ton of effort into learning, knowing that I'll more than likely never be called upon to regurgitate that information ever again. In all seriousness, it's not all that bad....

SOOO BORING OMG TRAINS!


Going off into the real world scares the crap out of me. I have no freaking idea what to expect and I hope that I can land a job. What I can bank on is my understanding of social media, and how it will continue to grow and change the way we do EVERYTHING...even clean our rooms (I'm sure theres a blog for that). I like to hope that someone will give me $$$ do work in social media, that would be sweet. With the knowledge and experience I have gained will hopeful pay off....like in $$$ (I want a cool car)

Who put this Blog here??

In my attempt to better understand and get acquainted with this whole blogging thing, I went around the internet and tried to find some blogs that are of interest to me.  While searching around, I came across a blog I completely forgot I was a HUGE fan of.

The blog is called Club Trillion and its written by a guy named Mark "The Shark" Titus who was a walk-on turned benchwarmer turned pop-culture figure at the Ohio State University.

Dude has his own Wikipedia page, no big deal.

The premise behind the blog was for Mark to tell stories about his life as a walk-on at one of the most prestigious basketball schools in the country, which quickly made him a huge sedation among the Ohio State community. People wanted to know what went on behind the scenes with OSU ball, and Titus delivered some of the best commentary while adding his own personal insights. Stuff was brilliant. The name "Club Trillion" comes from the fact that when Mark went into the ballgame, he would try and do as little as possible. When his stat sheet would come back after the game, it would show the minuets played first, followed by all the other statistics. Recording a "trillion" meant you would play at least one minute per game, but nothing else so that the sheet would read something like this 4-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 which would be 4 trillion. 

Pretty sweet, I know.

Who's wiki is this??

Social media is cool, really cool. So cool, in fact that it's literally taken over every aspect of our media-driven lives.

In reading many different texts and articles related to social media, I realized just how much social media tools can impact a business or an organization. I did some digging around and was wow-ed just how business actually do use social media and take it really seriously. The savvy business' these days are everywhere, on twitter, Facebook, youtube, you name it. They take feedback from consumers, make announcements regarding products and events, give deals/discounts/promotions and provide other forms of interactivity never offered in previous years. Thats pretty sweet knowing I can tweet @NFL about anything and there is a possibility that they might respond, but they most certainly saw the tweet. Talk about customer service.

With how cool social media has become, one of the coolest social media tools is the Wiki. What is a "wiki" you ask? Let me tell you. A wiki is a collaborative social media tool where users can create, edit and modify information shared among a community of users who may or may not share the same interests. Its like everyone online working on one big research project that never ends.

Take, for example: The Spyro the Dragon Wiki. I used to play Spyro as a kid and the game was freaking awesome. So imagine my surprise when I found a community of Spyro fans who were working together to create a database/collection of Spyro information.


Realizing that wikipedia wasn't the only kind of "wiki" wasn't wikipedia was cool, and I find it kinda fun to troll around the internet looking at all the different kinds of wikis that are floating around the internet.

Basically, social media does everything.  Things that can do everything are sweet. Therefore, social media is sweet.

Goals

GOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!

This post isn't about soccer.

For most of our lives, we do things in order to achieve a result from said thing. Take this blog for example, I didn't just do it because my super mean MDIA 470 teacher said I had to. To be honest, I've always wanted to start a blog, but like knitting, I never really got into it.

I wrote in my last post about some goals I had for this "fun blog" lets review what those were:

"I am hoping to learn a great deal of new things about the effects of social media as well as how to be a better social media user."


Okay, so that's only one goal and its not directly related to blogging...whatever.


Let's think outside the box. Blogging is a form of social media, and I want to learn more about social media. Therefore, by trying my hand at blogging, I get to have a new experience with social media. We always learn from our experiences, so I win.


I'll keep you guys posted if I come up with anything else goal-related.
